I made a remark to this list the other day about a problem I had where
the custom boot disk I created was on a dud floppy, and about how
awkward it was that I couldn't make another one.

I was frothing at the mouth again, I think.   Having seen how the
installation disk does it (thank goodness for source code!), I see
that the tool used is "mkbootdisk".   To my utter joy, this even has a
manual page.
