to the other replier to this message:  YES its true, the new Dells dont
let you fuss with IRQ assignments.

now to the point:  i had a nearly identical problem w/ my Dell.  my NIC
and video were sharing an IRQ.  i thought i was screwed.  then i tried
simply moving the NIC to a different PCI slot.  guess what?  it was given
a different IRQ by the BIOS!

now my Dell works fine.

give it a try.
