try this:
ls /usr/src/linux-2.4

which should be a symlink to the actual files in 
/usr/src/linux-2.4.18-26.8.0

(depending on the kernel version of course.) I have 
$ rpm -q kernel-source
kernel-source-2.4.18-26.8.0

For your purposes, setting the directory to /usr/src/linux-2.4 should do 
the trick.
