Your first post mention you run that by typing on the location box:
file:/var/....

That makes the apache not parsing PHP. Try instead with a complete URL 
address, for example:

http://yourhostname.yourdomain.com/phpinfo.php or 

http://localhost/phpinfo.php

if you don't have a host / domain name

Try that with Mozilla / konqueror / explorer. It should give you same result 
(well, if your explorer is on another machine that you need to use either 
hostname or IP).
