Hi,
I'm using RH Linux 6.2 kernel 2.4.16. Today I was
running out of disk space and went to the /var/log
directory and then deleted the "querylog" after
stopping the "named". After that my server started
becoming very slow and password authentication is
taking a lot of time. Then I tried restarting BIND and
it never started.
I've restarted the server and every process is taking
about 5 minutes and the complete boot process is about
30 mins. All the disks seem to be alright.
I've no idea what is happening on the server.
I'd appreciate if any of you gurus can help me with
this issue.I'd appreciate if you let me know if I need
to furnish any further information too.

It sounds like you have a process using a lot of CPU - try running top on a terminal (xterm or one of the consoles); this will show you a list of the heaviest processes, so you can kill it. Before you kill it, try to get as much information about the process as possible, like it's command line etc, so you can try to amend the situation.

another good cli to use would be sar or iostat -> $iostat 2 20 > iostatproblemfile or something.
