No. There is no rule against using kernels from www.kernels.org .
The only thing that you have to consider is that kernels from
www.kernel.org are in source form . That means that they have to
be build first in order to be used. Look in the documentation cd of
Redhat Linux 7.2 there is a kernel-howto with instructions on how this
can be achieved . Also as soon as you decompress the file you download
from www.kernel.org ( it usually comes in *.tar.gz , tar zxpvf  *.tar.gz
, is
the command for decompressing the file ) don't forget to read the README
file .
   On the other hand kernels from Redhat download sites come in rpm
format,
which means that the only thing you have to do to use them is to enter
the
command
  rpm -i  kernel-version.rpm . That is assuming kernel-version.rpm is
the file
that you downloaded from Redhat download sites ( that would be
updates.redhat.com.
