ampersand email add problem

Hi, im using rh7.2, sendmail-8.11.0-8 with sophos as smtp anti virus, sendmail and sophos works fine but when i tried to send email to t&[EMAIL PROTECTED] the server rejected the recipient. does it has anything to do with the ampersand(&). BTW im using outlook express and the t&c was changed to [EMAIL PROTECTED] (c with undrscore)   any advise will be a great help     Thanks,   toto
