This is almost always caused by your DNS not working. Make sure your local host name is in /etc/hosts and point yourself at a valid nameserver. The system is not really hanging - it's just pausing while all the nameserver resolutions timeout. If you're patient, it will finally continue. > When I restart again, I get a corrupt disk ( forced disk check )and > have to re-install . Whenever you have a hard crash - and I'm assuming you rebooted or powered down - a disk check will be forced. Your disk is likely not corrupt, and you don't have to re-install. Just let fsck continue checking and repairing the disk if necessary, and you'll be fine. > What could be the cause ? Long term, I'd recommend you upgrade to a more recent version of Red Hat Linux. There are certainly known security holes in your kernel, many of the packages you're running, and depending on which sendmail you're installing, there will be holes there too. Some of these holes are remotely exploitable. Please don't put a very old Linux system on the Internet - it makes the rest of us look bad when you get hacked. -- Ed Wilts, Mounds View, MN, USA mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Member #1, Red Hat Community Ambassador Program -- redhat-list mailing list unsubscribe mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]?subject=unsubscribe https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/redhat-list
