LOL - no. Be a pretty smart cordless phone too, to only beep when I log in as a regular user (not root). I don't think they make them that smart yet! It's re-producable. Log in as root - all OK, log in as any other user - beep beep beep. I've never heard of permissions causing beeps in X but who the hell knows what's causing this?
