Thanks Edward. I looked all over for that file. Didn't try locate. Changed the file ran up2date (first break I took today) updated fine. This is the first time in 18 months that I've done anything to this machine. It only operates as a mail server. I haven't even had it down in the last 12 months. I upgraded to 7.1 because I couldn't get 7.3 to install at all. Also had a LOT of trouble with the network card. Never did get it to work, finally replaced it, although the 3Com diagnostics said the card was OK.
Thanks again for your help. No use sending an e-mail to redhat. You didn't look hard enough. All you need to do is edit /etc/sysconfig/rhn/up2date to download kernels. Try reading up on the locate command to find things on your system.
