Mark, If you are wanting |nice| digital camera picks (ie. With few |dotty| looking prints) you will likely need to spend more then $200 on the printer. I have a digital camera with a 2.1 Megapixel capability, I also have a very nice (in comparison to my old printer anyway) the picture quality is decent, in some cases. In other cases, it is very easy to tell that it is printed on an inkjet printer. The images are somewhat grainy, even though the images on the computer screen are far from grainy, in fact, the images look excellent on the screen.
The print that I have is capable of 4800 x 1200 DPI. While nice, I am not supremely impressed with the results. It is a Canon i550 model. (I have always had luck with Linux and Canon printers, however I am currently using the USB cable instead of the Parallel connection, so I can't say for sure if it will run under Linux. (I haven't given it a try just yet.) There are no banding problems with the prints and the photos do look okay, depending on the lighting the photo was taken in and if you don't put it up close to your face, 4x6 images come out nicely on this printer. I just got a digital camera so I'd like something that will do a good job of printing photo's for home use. Any suggestions for less than $200?
