If the anser is simply use a more recent release because xxx, great.
I don't know how to isolate the problem any further (let alone fix
it!). I'm not sure exactly what might be at fault (ppp, kernel, ???).

I'm using redhat 4.2 (kernel 2.0.30-2 and ppp 2.2.0f-3).
Also using diald 0.16

My ifconfig:

ppp0 Link encap:Point-Point Protocol
          inet addr:205.179.145.12 P-t-P:165.227.96.17
Mask:255.255.255.0
          UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING MTU:560 Metric:1
          RX packets:6669 errors:92 dropped:92 overruns:0
          TX packets:4788 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0

any ideas/help would be welcome!

ps - I've got RH5.0 and plan on installing it soon...
