I'm using a plain RH5.0 system (no Metro-X or CDE).
Anyone using the "Usernet" GUI program to start up and shutdown PPP?
How does it determine if the PPP connection is successfully started?
I have two PPP connections configured on my system that I setup with
the netconfig tool under root and, since I'm the only one on this
system, I was looking for a way to bring one up without logging into
the root account. I had already been using the 'usernetctl' command
to do this at the command line, but I happened to stumble on the
'Usernet' menu option under Programs/Networking of the AnotherLevel
user interface and tried it out (why isn't there a RedHat User's
Manual to go with the RedHat Installation Manual??). When I click on
one of the PPP buttons, it successfully brings up the PPP interface,
but the status button only goes from Red to Yellow and not Green.
Anyone know how stable this tool is? Also, considering that netconfig
was written in Python, why wasn't this tool? Finally, the MAN page
for usernet could be written better (does it use usernetctl to start
PPP? does it use the ifcfg scripts? does it have any side effects?).
