I have a little downtown here this year so I am expanding my knowledge of
computers. I brought a copy of Redhat Linux 7.3 with me and am slowly
learning how to use it. I enjoy it.
One of my short-term challenges include making the TeX program that came
with my version of Linux print simplified Chinese characters.
While in Emacs, I believe I am using the font gbsn00lp.ttf when I type in my
Chinese characters. It is located in my /usr/share/fonts/zh_CN/truetype
subdirectory.
A while back, in your "The No BS Guide To TeTeX Font Installation" you wrote
about Converting True Type Fonts to Type1 for TeTeX / LaTeX at the website:

The solutions people in Taiwan have come up with to print Chinese characters
with TeX, in my opinion, are a lot more complicated than converting the
gbsn001p.ttf file to PFA and AFM files.

I am guessing that my idea of converting the truetype font to PFA and AFM
files is too simple and that I am stuck trying to wade through the Taiwanese
documentation and software.
