DVD troubles with Red Hat 8

I am running Red Hat 8 on a laptop with a 1.2 ghz processor and 256 megs of ram. I tried installing all three linux dvd players, mplayer, ogle, and xine, but video is choppy with all of them. I tried using nice to give the video priority. No luck. This is frustrating to me because I was using Mandrake and DVDs worked fine. Any suggestions?
