Not sure what the original poster means, but some users fool up2date
into performing a dist-upgrade like apt. They upgrade the
redhat-release package manually which causes up2date to switch to a
different channel at Red Hat Network. Up2date then upgrade/installs
packages from the new channel. While this may work, it is an upgrade
path that is unsupported by Red Hat. Probably it can also crash
up2date at run-time.
