OK, I'm about to give up on this 5.1 and stick with 5.

I'm trying to install 5.1 on a new system. In brief, here's the specs:

PII-300
Abit LX6 Motherboard
64megs pc100 sdram
cheapie Trident vidcard
Intel EtherExpress Pro100

Adaptec 2940ua
Toshiba 32x SCSI cdrom
Quantum Fireball SE 6.4gig

The problem comes early on in install, when I point it to the "local
cdrom", it probes for my SCSI card, says it
Found Adaptec 2920, 2940 SCSI Card.

I hit "ok" and it does "mounting cdrom" then very soon gives me "mount
failed: Invalid argument"

When I go to

alt-F3 I see
scsi devices are available
mounting scd- on /tmp/rhimage as type iso9660
calling mount(/tmp/scd0, /tmp/rhimage, iso9660, -1058209791, (nil))

alt-F4
<4>CD-ROM I/O error: dev 0b:00, sector 64
<4>isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 0b:00 iso_blknum 16 block 32

Anyone have a clue wtf is going wrong??
Oh, also, if I try an FTP install it wants the supplementary disk. Um,
I didn't GET any sup disk..... real handy, that.
