Hmm... that's weird, as I have a SoundBlaster AWE 32, and the sndconfig 
will not run on my RH 5.0 either.  Although, I havn't tried the new 
version.  I get the same error, (error encountered in modprobe) bla bla

According to everything that came with it, it is 100% compatible.

I've since found that if I run modprobe by itself, and point it at the
sound modules, I get a message back saying that the module is busy, or
something pretty close to that...

It doesn't like your sound card.  You do not have a Creative Labs card
(or one that is hardware compatible with a SB Pro).  Currently,
sndconfig is limited to Sound Blasters and 99.9999% compatible SB Pro
cards.
