Yes, you do need to have 'smtp' started, but sendmail should already
be running (it's usually started by default if it's installed.) The
problem you're getting is that sendmail is set up by default in RH 5.0
to not allow relaying of mail, because having an open relaying mail
server is a Bad Thing(tm). To enable it for a particular machine, add
either:
- the hostname to the /etc/mail/name_allow
- the IP address to the /etc/mail/ip_allow
