C? You can do it from a shell script. I'm not at my home machine, but
basically you just run (I think) setterm with some args on tty1 through
tty6. I thought this was detailed in the Console & Keyboard HOWTO, but I
just reread it and it's not there. I can't recall where I came across
this info.

I'll post my script tomorrow if no-one has answered by then.
