I don't know about the latest drivers, but the S3 driver has some bugfixes
in it (related I think to variations between one Trio64 maker's card and
another's) that you could try.
In the "Device" section of your XF86Config, try each of these in turn:
Option "Trio64V+_Bug1"
Option "Trio64V+_Bug2"
Option "Trio64V+_Bug2"
One of those might help you.
