        Since your root partition is on an IDE disk (hdd), you don't need
initrd.img.  You should be able to do "loadlin.exe vmlinuz root=/dev/hdd2 ro".
It's hard to tell what's going on without some more detail.  For instance,
does it print any message before it freezes?
