Red Hat doesn't support IDE tape out of the box. With
a kernel recompile you should be ready to go.
Turn on support for IDE tape in the IDE section of the
kernel config, then turn on ftape support in the character device
section. Recompile, install the new kernel, and you should have
a happy tape drive available at /dev/ht0
