Hi,

in the course of upgrading from 5.0 to 5.1 a message was displayed

        can't open /lib/modules/2.0.34/modules.dep

I just hit the return key - expecting to drop to the shell but happily
that did not occur. The upgrade continued without incident and the
machine seems to be stable.

With regard to the modules the following are installed :

[kyle@nelson /tmp]$ rpm -qa |grep 2.0.34

kernel-ibcs-2.0.34-0.6
kernel-pcmcia-cs-2.0.34-0.6
kernel-2.0.34-0.6
kernel-headers-2.0.34-0.6
kernel-source-2.0.34-0.6

Is there anything to be concerned about here ?

One more thing.

on installing uemacs

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 183218 Jul 24 1997 uemacs-4.0.0-1.i386.rpm

and typing me a core dump results. The first time through it
complained about missing libncurses.so.3.2

creating a simbolic link with the name libncurses.so.3.2 linked to
EITHER libncurses.so.1.9.9e or libncurses.so.4.2 allows me to
advance a stage further but me core dumps none the less

With regard to the glib library I have the following

[root@nelson /tmp]# rpm -qa |grep libc

glibc-debug-2.0.7-13
glibc-profile-2.0.7-13
libc-5.3.12-27
glibc-devel-2.0.7-13
glibc-2.0.7-13

pp 266-7 of the install guide (5.1) state that the above is acceptable but
libc-debug-5.3.12-18 and libc-5.4.44-2 should be removed. It strikes me
as odd that libc-5.3.whaever is ok but libc-5.4.whatever is not ! Was it
the writer's intention to convey that all 'libc' rpms should be removed;
including libc-5.3.12-27 ?

cheers,

Kyle Hargraves
