No! The redhat updates directory is for Official updates from Redhat. The
contrib directory is for rpms built by who knows who. BE VERY CAREFUL with
anything from the contrib directory. Odds are they are just fine but there
is no guarantee that they are built correctly and will not damage you machine.
If they break your system you get to keep the pieces. :)
A lot of the time the later versions are compiled using the redhat Spec file
and patches by someone who needed a function in a later version, but you still
need to know that things are Ok if you care about your system. I have seen
everything from not installing at all to putting files in the wrong place
from the conrtib directory. I have also seen some very nicely done rpms (lets
give credit where credit is due). The bottom line is if Redhat has an official
rpm for a given package, I would suggest that you use that. If not look
in contrib.
