I bought a Diamond Fireport 40 from http://www.scsistuff.com for $99. It
uses the NCR/Symbios Ultra/Wide SCSI chip. Red Hat 5.0 picked up up
immediately, and my SCSI hard drive benchmarks just as fast as on that
$260 Mylex/Buslogic on one of our servers in the field. (The story may be
different under load, of course... but not $160 different!).

Unfortunately no. I'm interested in music and I have the same problem --
nobody has come out with anything for Linux that's comparable to Cakewalk.
Specialty software of this sort is where the open source model seems to
fall apart, with the exception of The Gimp.
