init 6 is what shutdown does. This will reboot the system. init 0
should just bring it down and halt it (no reboot, you have to manually
reset it to get it to reboot). I still maintain (assuming you are at the
console) that the easiest way to bring the system down though is
<ctrl> <alt> <del>.
