I'm not sure if I understand the question, so lemme throw out a
description :-)

In my experience: either root runs a fetchmail process with many:
"server xyz, user jsmith there is jsmith here, password foo" lines;

...or each user has a .fetchmailrc file with one or two lines like that.

Either way, the local sendmail should automatically deliver without any
special configuration. The only one I could forsee might be editing your
aliases file (?)... I at one point changed which system was supposed to be
reading my mail, and failed to note a loop... I had my user name forwarded
to my ISP, so that local mail for that machine was sent to my ISP SMTP
server, and then downloaded elsewhere; reversing the flow, I accidentally
had fetchmail download all my mail, just for sendmail to post it back to
the server :-)

The fetchmail manpages have a good set of sample configurations, too...
they cover most possibilityies I can forsee...

:[using Redhat 5.0 (Hurricane)] I'd like to be able to fetch my
:mail using Fetchmail, then have it delivered via the smtp port to
:Sendmail. Reading the FAQ for Fetchmail, it says I have to
:"declare local names" so that mail is delivered to
:where I want it to go. I assume hat lets Sendmail know that mail
:passed to it via Fetchmail for [EMAIL PROTECTED] goes to,
:say, localusername on my machine? But, Do I have to change my
:sendmail.cf or something else to "declare" where mail goes?
:
:I understand how to set up .fetchmailrc, and I can connect using
:PPP but the Sendmail side is confusing. The new sign-account
:details given my ISP gave 2 mail server addresses, one
:mail.company.co.uk and the other was described as "unlimited smtp
:mail..." smtp.company.co.uk <--- what's the difference for
:setting up Fetchmail/ but particularly Sendmail? (What do I put
:in sendmail.cf as the Smart host??)
:
:According to Man pages for Fetchmail, you can set it up so that
:it connects with your ISP and initiates a SMTP send direct with
:Sendmail (I assume that's right?). What's the best option?
:
:Thanks for any help,
