hmm. thanks for the response. ( its the only one so far ...! )

i havnt run xf86config as yet.

however during the install, i set using (Xconfigurator) my exact
hardware (matrox millenium 4 meg card) and monitor specs - ie.
1600x1200@75hzin 16 bit colour.

after reading some of the entries to the red-hat list regarding mouse
problems i decided to do:

#gpm -k
#startx

to which X started perfactly - straight after boot up and login.

(i guess it has something to do with the mouse settings... perhaps ?)

anyway i shall get rid of my mouse in favour of a three button one. can
anyone recommend a decent one ? or should i just go for the cheapest one
available ?

as to the cd problem - i *still* havent got a clue ...

apart from thinking that burning a cd using an irix system is a slightly
non-standard (as far as linux is concerned) issue perhaps ?

can anyone else perhaps shed some light on the matter ?
