Yeah. . . well, unfortunately between upgrading to 5.1 and deciding that I need
sound, I'd already passed through several kernel re-compiles that _didn't_
include sound. So now I'm trying to bring it back. I guess I could just
re-install the stock kernel, but there is non-stock stuff that I do need to have
working.

Also, I did finally get sound working _sort_of_. Unfortunately I'm not sure
what I did; I hand-forced some of the sound modules into the kernel, and my
sndconfig error changed from 'an error running modprobe' to 'an error opening
/dev/audio,' which was solved by changing the IRQ probed in sndconfig.

Now, though, there are times when programs which access sound will crash my
display. I don't know if it has to do with my sound card directly, or if those
same apps (Quake will do it every time) are causing my video to misbehave.
Enlightenment does it (unpredictably), Quake does it immediately after the sound
is configured, and only a hard boot will fix the problem.

But for now, sound does appear to work, sort of.
