Hello:
I am considering purchasing a Digital Server 3205. Before I do, I
want to ensure it, including all hardware such as SCSI and Ethernet
interfaces, work with Linux. Here are the specs:
Digital Server 3205
- Pentium II 300MhZ
- 288Mb RAM (2 x 16Mb, 4 x 64Mb)
- SCSI 12X CD-ROM drive,
- Integrated PCI Fast Ethernet card with 100/10Base-T, 10Base-2, AUI
- Integrated PCI Ultra-Wide Adaptec 7880 SCSI controller
- S3 Trio PCI graphics card with 1Mb VRAM,
- 4 x 4 Gb UltraWide SCSI drives @ 7200 RPM
- PCI 1-channel UltraSCSI RAID controller
- 12/24Gb 4mm DAT tape drive.
*Sounds* like a nice configuration, but am I going to meet with any
unpleasant surprises when trying to get Linux going on it? What has
me worried the most are the SCSI, Ethernet, and RAID controllers.
I called 1-800-Digital and asked about the devices. The RAID controller
is a Mylex (probably a DAC960PD but tech wasn't sure). The SCSI
controller is an Adaptec 7880. The ethernet card is Digital 21143
chipset-based.
The Linux hardware query page at http://www.suse.de/cdb/english/ lists:
Mylex DAC960PD - Supported? "Unknown"
Adaptec 7880 - not listed
Digtal 21143 - not listed
Thanks in advance for any advice.
