I have a rh5.0 system but perheps its similar. I belive that there are
only two posibilities to define for the hardware clock in the system, I
mean either the system thinks the hardware clock is set to UTC (Universal
time) or GMT( Greenich time), there is a file /etc/sysconfig/clock where
this is defined (there is a line saying UTC=true or UTC=false, in the
later case its set to GMT). Then your system looks in /etc for a file
called localtime which is usually a symlink to your timezone e.g.
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Europe/Berlin in my case, you might have :
/usr/share/zoneinfo/Brazil/East (or whatever) which tells the system how
much offset there is from the local time to the timezone the system thinks
the biosclock is set to. So either set your Bios clock to UTC or GMT and
link to the appropriate timezone or put your bios clock to your local time
set e.g. UTC=true and link /etc/localtime to /usr/share/zoneinfo/UTC (or
of course do the the same with GMT)
greetings,
Clemens
