Ignint question here, sure to demonstrate how little I know.

I came home from work today and noticed no mail had arrived all day.
Figuring I may not be popular, but that this list should at least keep
things active, I checked sendmail with ps. Looked like this:

root 206 0.0 0.7 1420 244 ? S May 31 0:00 (sendmail)

I went into my init.d area and stopped sendmail, and got a no-such-pid
message. Then I restarted, and my ps report looks like this:

root 3735 0.0 2.9 1440 912 ? S 00:10 0:00 sendmail:
accepting connections on port 25

Are there any general reasons sendmail would quit accepting connections
without being told? My PPP connection got zapped unexpectedly once, but
it restarted a few minutes later, and besides knowing that I don't even
know where to look to see what was going on. Sorry, eh.
