Greetings!

Can you please help me get my printer to work properly?

I'm trying to configure my printer right now. What I can do so far is,
when I run the RHS Linux Print System Manager in the control-panel, I
choose the "Print ASCII directly to port" option in the "Tests" menu and
it prints a simple line saying, "This text should appear on the printer on
/dev/lp1" and the message window comes up saying "Test page printed to
port /dev/lp1"

But when I try to test print by choosing the "Print ASCII test page"
option in the "Tests" menu, it displays a error box saying:

"Erro printing test page to queue lp

Error reason: lpr: connect: Is a directory
jobs queued, but cannot start deamon."

Sorry, I have no idea what that means.

According to the "Edit Local Printer Entry" box that comes up when I
choose to "Edit" the printer,

Names (name1|name2|..) lp
Spool Directory /var/spool/lpd/lp
File Limit in Kb 0
Printer Device /dev/lp1
Input Filter *auto* - CanonBJ200

and when I try to print a file, these come up:

[root@localhost /dev]# lpr /dev/lp1 test.txt
lpr: /dev/lp1 is an empty file
lpr: connect: Is a directory
jobs queued, but cannot start daemon.
[root@localhost /dev]# lpq lp test.txt
Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size
[root@localhost /dev]# lpq lp1 test.txt
Warning: no daemon present
Rank Owner Job Files Total Size

Can someone please tell me what I should do to get my printer going? I
have an assignment due in a couple of days and I'd appreciate any help.

Also, does anybody know of a good place to go to learn how to get my zip
drive going? Thank you very much in advance!

With Best,

Steve
