It's a good theory. With my Athlon, compiling the kernel taks five minutes.

Mozilla's a little longer.

But also, it's not very scientific. Maybe useful as a rough-and-ready diagnostic, but 
not much more.

I've found Postgresql can give disks and RAM a good workover, but again it's not very 
scientific.
