Your bios might have a setting to enable a more thorough POST, which might find the memory problem. There is no tool that I have found which can test all the memory in Linux without a seriously modified kernel. Memtest86 is based on Linux, but boots into a kernel modified to facilitate testing all the memory on a system. Regards,
