Solutions using different directories was already pointed out, so I won't
go into that.

I don't know the specifics about the setup, but it seems to be either you
need to change the requirements, do the install hacking or change distros
(though I doubt the others are significantly better).

Ie: if you need different versions of packages, would it be possible to
always install the oldest from the repository, and use an autoupdate
script (e.g. autoupdate) to handle different configurations after
installing.

For what it's worth I'm basically handling 40+ servers plus 3-4 dozen
services alone'ish with ftp installs.
