Is there any way to have the "legacy libraries" such as libvga and
friends, there as usual compiled and existing as legacy, but
upgraded to the latest versions.

I have a situation where I have a video card that is supported
with the newer libraries, but NOT with the older svgalib
libraries. In particular, there is no VESA driver support in the
  1.2.13 version.

I have several applications -- quake1 and quake2 spring to mind
immediately -- that want to use the legacy svgalib libraries, but
they won't work due to lack of driver support.

(Hmm, then again... perhaps this isn't the real solution? But the
library version in both cases is still .so.1)

Cheers
Tony
