For rh6.2 you can't use USB unless you use rh7.0 or the 2.2.16-22
kernel from rh7.0 which has the USB support patched into it. And
even then you'll need to tweak things to get it all working right on
a rh6.2 box.
For parport scanners, you have to do "scsi over parport" and use the
"sane" (and xsane) package from the rh6.2 powertools (Scanner Access
Now Easy). (Sane been moved into the installation in rh7.0). But
even then, only _some_ scanners are supported (scsi by default), not
all. I haven't looked at USB scanner support yet (but I'll be doing
that sometime very soon) so I can't give you any clues there (yet).
For all the gruesome details, check the kernel documentation, the
HOWTOs (some of them talk about using sanners with linux), and the
docs with sane. (With the inclusion of the sane, the rh7.0 docs
might have something about scanners).
Good luck.
Cheers
Tony
