Hmm, then I should probably submit this to Red Hat's bugzilla. They do
include Xwrapper into their 4.0.1 install, symlink /usr/bin/X11R6/X to
it, and ship /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 without suid bit, thus forcing
everyone to use Xwrapper. Maybe because they PAMified it, and don't want
to do it again with XFree86. Or, more likely, because they want to support
both 3.x and 4.x servers. Of course fixing this would require making
all X configuration tools change /usr/X11R6/bin/X symlink depending on
what version the user wants to use and that is ugly... The alternative is
to set up another symlink in /etc/X11 and patch xinit code and {x,k,g}dm
configs to use it, but that is not exactly nice too.
