Of course you have to use CDRW disks to be able to erase a
disk. Linux has never not supported this AFAIK. As soon as CDRW
was available, the kernel side of things is just a raw
driver. cdrecord has supported CDRW for as long as I can
remember and I've been using it for at least 2-3 years...
In fact, I just got an Oops while erasing a CDRW the other day,
while simultaneously attempting to mount a CDROM in my cd reader
which is on the same IDE bus. I've got no response from anyone
on lkml who seems to care yet, so I might as well advertise it a
bit. ;o)
So, log into your company server, wait until they erase a CDRW
and then mount a disk. ;o) A cron job might work good
enough. ;o)
Seriously though, it works fine, just as long as you don't do
what I did. ;o)
