As another poster commented, your question would be better posted on another
list instead of the development one.
Having said that, try "ping -n {IP_address_of_another_machine}" if the values
are good then your red hat box is trying to resolve name and IP addresses and
it is failing to do so and that causes the delay.
Otherwise, you most likely have a problem with the card setup (IRQ sharing,
etc.) or the card itself.
BTW "ping -n ip_address" causes ping to work without it doing reverse named
lookups ("-n") and without even looking up the address since we supplied the IP
address initially.
