I have a server that has been locking up on a weekly basis so I thought
I'd see if anyone else here has had a similar experience.
The server has dual Intel Pentium III's, 512M, and is running the
standard installed 2.2.14-5.0smp kernel. Not much additional software.
The lockups are intermittent and render the machine unreachable (no
console, no remote connections). The log files indicate nothing and no
core dump is produced.
The machine is always running X but never under any serious load. The
only time I've seen this before was with an SGI server which turned out
to be
faulty memory. I have ordered replacement memory for the machine, but I
am curious as to any other possible causes. I have two other like
machines
which have been solid since I brought them up months ago. Re-installing,
which I'd like to avoid, is going to be my last option.
Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
