Thanks for the link. I think I have found the answer. I installed 6.1
from CD, and this time I am trying to install from our network here at work,
thus having to configure the network first. The 3c509 apparently has trouble
with resource conflicts on the install, at least in v6.1. I still don't
understand why it is not an option in v6.2. I could at least feel more
comfortable selecting the 3c509, instead of the 3c501, or any of the other
options. One of the messages I read said that v6.0 had an autoprobe feature,
I wonder why this was removed.
