The wmconfig package (a dynamic window manager configuration tool)
is marked as deprecated in RedHat Linux 6.2 and as such may not be
supported or included in future releases. I suppose there is/will be
a replacement for it. What is it?

wmconfig is used mainly to dynamicaly build the menus for some
window managers (fvwm95, fvwm2, afterstep, mwm, anotherlevel, icewm,
blackbox, wmaker and kde are the currently supported ones). How one
will build shuch dynamic menus in future versions of RHL? I know
some window managers and desktops can do that themselves, but not
all of them can.

I have been using IceWM for a while and wmconfig has been used to
generate the menus for me. Even some packages distributed with
RHL still uses wmconfig (for example, WindowMaker and AfterStep).
So I think wmconfig will not just be dropped without a replacement.

I noticed also that Mandrake Linux has dropped wmconfig from its
development release (mandrake-cooker) and start using the menu
package from Debian. Would RedHat go the same way? If so there will
be at least one advantage: compatibility among distributions
regarding dynamic menus.

Any comments?
