Hello,

>From some much appreciated advice from the mailing list, we have downloaded
the latest version of the ext3 filesystem (version *.2c) for use with Red
Hat 6.1. I have been closely following the directions but am still having
problems creating a journal on my root file system and having the system
boot without a panic (We have a / and a /usr file system).

I have patched my 2.2.12-20 default kernel with the
linux-2.2.12rh61-ext3.diff file and rebuilt my kernel according to the
instructions including secondary ext fs development code ( I think it went
OK). I created an inode in the root directory for the journal with the "dd
if=/dev/zero of=/journal.dat bs=1k count=10000" command. Got the inode
number (322) and ran lilo so that my new kernel that I built would boot.
When I boot I use boot options "rw rootflags=journal=322". The system boots
up and tells me:

ext3_get_inode_loc: bad inode number: 322
Journal length (0 blocks) too short
EXT3-fs: error creating journal
Attempt to access beyond the end of the device.
Get root inode failed

Then I get a kernel panic.

Has anyone done this successfully? Am I doing this right?

Any help would be appreciated.
