------------------------------------------ This message was posted as a talkback at http://linuxtoday.com/story.php3?sn=12877. ----------------------------------------- sometime ago, when the RH 6.0 came out, I noticed this problem on a Tyan Tomcat HX mainboard UP (the UP version is basically the same as the SMP version but without the plastic socket7). Alan Cox told me that this (and many other mainboards) do not meet the Intel Multiprocessor specifications when reporting SMP capabilities, therefore it\'s the mainboards fault. Of course a nice check for faulty hardware would be nice. (checking /proc/pci for problematic mainboards etc.) (under RH 6.x the solution is to boot with linux-up kernel which is installed too by default).
