I've been following a multitude of threads about Cartman installation woes
and about the installer and thought I might drop my own $00.02 into the
growing pile of change...
First a philosophical point...
I use my PC's for serious work and I do not try to mix and match Linux with
toy operating systems... ever. I do not have a single dual-booting machine
in the place... anywhere. Also... I select hardware based on the Tier One
compatibility list (with one minor exception which is being preserved to
help with fixing some troubles in the kernel's SCSI mid-layer) and I build
all my machines myself... nothing in my business inventory was bought
preassembled. Everything was purchased component by component and assembled
with my own hands. None of this means that folks who don't do these things
or are not running a business using Linux are in anyway viewed as lesser
beings or lesser talents or lesser anything at all... it simply means that I
have chosen to focus entirely on Linux and it's use and I will not suffer
any distractions from that end.
So... on to the dropping of small amounts of loose change...
I have now installed Cartman from CD 11 times (one of which was a laptop
which is generally a cantankerous piece of crud!) and I have not had a
failure of any kind, nor do I have a bitch, a complaint, or a bug report.
The only issue which has arisen at all was reported by someone else... and
that was a problem with bind and since someone was kind enough to provide a
patch I applied the patch to the src.rpm and rebuilt it within 10 minutes of
hearing about the issue (I had not noted it myself but I'm sure that I would
have!).
In summation... good job Red Hat, and thank you!
