I'm trying to build this source rpm on my RHL 4.2 system as part of my
upgrade-by-stealth program. Unfortunately, it dies thus:
gcc -static -O2 -m486 -fno-strength-reduce -o insmod.static insmod.o
logger.o ../obj/libobj.a ../util/libutil.a
ld: cannot open -lc: No such file or directory
make[1]: *** [insmod.static] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory `/home/summer/tmp/modutils-2.1.121/insmod'
make: *** [all] Error 2
Bad exit status from /var/tmp/rpm-tmp.22766 (%build)

Does anyone have an idea about what's wrong and what I need?

btw The spec file had lots of stuff in foreign languages (fr, de and tr)
involving characters not used in English.

The version of rpm I'm using (3.0.2) complains and won't build the rpms
from it. Surely it's not too much to ask that RPM carry on regardless?
