This is the default operation:
[root@emu log]# grep lpd messages | head
Oct 3 09:19:23 emu lpd[19965]: possum.os2.ami.com.au requests recvjob lp
Oct 3 15:27:53 emu lpd[24820]: emu.os2.ami.com.au requests printjob lp
Oct 3 17:14:05 emu lpd[25005]: emu.os2.ami.com.au requests printjob lp
Oct 3 23:06:44 emu lpd[28029]: bilby.os2.ami.com.au requests recvjob lp
Oct 4 09:57:43 emu lpd[10309]: bilby.os2.ami.com.au requests recvjob lp
Oct 4 17:25:25 emu lpd[16732]: emu.os2.ami.com.au requests printjob lp

I do recall reading (about the 2.0.3 days) that one could set up
information for charging users; for home use this seemed overkill (and the
$$$ would be hard to collect) so I didn't go further, and printing is so
easy to set up these days (at least, for the use I make of it).

I expect if you read the lpd docs and HOWTOs you'll find more; I think
there's a printing HOWTO around.
